This hard shell roof top tent range delivers every bit of quality engineering and construction that you’ve come to expect from Darche – all in a stunning aluminum shell.
The Ridgeback series tent comes in two material options – a premier ECO recycled polyester, made using recycled plastic waste and saving around 185 bottles from landfill per tent, and a traditional canvas body.
Ridgeback’s aerodynamic design will turn heads on the road. Its unique profile and compact design reduces wind drag and overall vehicle height, perfect for lifted vehicles navigating the urban jungle between off-road adventures.
The high-spec build gives you unparalleled quality including German-engineered Stabilus struts that provide effortless set up and pack down assistance. With a flick of the latches, this simple one-person set up will have you stargazing in seconds.
The interior is full of innovation too, including a plush 55mm memory foam mattress with a removable cover and water-resistant base, plus a 10mm high rebound anti-condensation mat that will give you the most comfortable night’s sleep you’ve ever had on the road. The interior also features internal USB powered LED lighting that has been laboratory tested to ensure compliance with all safety standards.
There is plenty of room inside to keep you cool and comfortable. The rain fly and built-in air vents reduce condensation and provide excellent airflow, even in rainy weather. There are three full size entry points and a zippered sky window that will give you plenty of ventilation as you drift off under the starry night sky.
At 1250mm (50″) wide, Ridgeback is compatible with a wide range of Darche accessories – including sleeping bags like Cold Mountain poly and Cold Mountain Canvas.
The Ridgeback tent body is made from either premium 280gsm ripstop polycotton canvas, or eco-friendly recycled polyester. This tent has an impressive 3000mm water rating, high profile automotive rubber weather seals, internal seam sealing and a removable fly that will keep you dry in extended rainy conditions With roof rails accessory kits available (sold separately), the Ridgeback delivers everything you’ll ever need in a hard shell roof top tent and more.
The included mounting brackets suit most commercially available flat roof rack or roof rail systems. Make sure to check the weight rating and suitability of your roof rack and vehicle with appropriate manufacturers prior to purchase. When in doubt, contact a professional installer for assistance.

Established in 1991, DARCHE® has become one of the best-known – and loved – Australian camping and outdoor adventure brands. Today DARCHE® enjoys an iconic Australian status in the camping and 4×4 touring market, but it was from humble beginnings that this brand was conceived.
Born of necessity – as many great things are – Darren O’Dwyer saw a hole in the Australian outdoor market. While he loved nothing more than hitting the road with an old fashioned rollout swag, he found his sleeping arrangements were not all that appealing to others, namely his wife, Cheryl.
While planning a road trip along the east coast, Cheryl declared there was no way she was sleeping in one of those things – the bugs will get in!
Avid campers, the O’Dwyers knew a thing or two about the conditions their swag design would have to endure on their adventure, so with help from his brother Dave, Darren set out to design a shelter that suited the rugged, Australian landscape… and the wildlife that inhabits it.
It had to be tough but comfortable, waterproof yet breathable, quick, practical and easy to stow. It had to provide a fully enclosed shelter with enough space around the skin to protect from bugs and mozzies, and it had to be completely zip sealed to keep the critters and creepy crawlies out – no easy task. Together, the O’Dwyer’s created a canvas shell with zippered doors and windows, and of course – a flexible fibreglass pole, designing Australia’s first dome swag. It was a talking point at many camping spots throughout their journey along the east coast, and remains an icon of the Australian camping scene today.
With a passion for outdoor adventure, It was a natural progression from the original dome swag to an impressive range of roof top tents and awnings. Superior canvas quality being the foundation of long lasting, rugged outdoor gear.
