Designed for those who prefer extra room, these large, box shaped sleeping bags provide ultimate comfort in Canada’s rugged conditions and are purpose built to fit into Darche’s range of Swags and Roof Top Tents. The Cold Mountain range is designed with the tourer, adventurer, fisherman and all-round outdoor enthusiast in mind and comes in three Dimensions; 900mm (35″), 1100mm (43″) and 1400mm (55″) wide – a perfect fit for many Darche swags and roof-top tents.

The Cold Mountain sleeping bag range features a Dual Zip system, ideal for entry and exit from either side of the sleeping bag, and allows 2 sleeping bags to be joined into one large bag. The toe zip assists in opening the sleeping bag as a duvet, and can be unzipped for extra ventilation and coolness on warmer nights.

The two-layered, robust modular construction of the Cold Mountain sleeping bags counter-acts ‘cold spots’ and enables an even distribution of warmth, with a fixed top layer filling and a floating bottom layer filling. This translates in to added protection from the cold underneath you as you sleep. The hooded area also provides plenty of room for a pillow, and 1400 models are even suitable for two people (though we recommend zipping together two 900 bags for more space!)

Ergonomically designed with two different comfort ratings, a heat-trapping baffle collar, anti-snag zip guide, internal pockets, and compression bag, there is a Cold Mountain sleeping bag for everyone, from first-time campers through to backcountry tourers. For a classic sleeping bag, check out the Cold Mountain Canvas.

Comfort Ratings & Sleeping Bag Selection

The Cold Mountain Sleeping bag range is tested by Darche’s product development team in collaboration with specialized manufacturers to develop comfort ratings suited to many types of climate. The European Standard EN 13537 is considered during development and testing, but is not conformed to.

The purpose of a sleeping bag is to keep the user warm by trapping body heat. The comfort ratings developed for the Cold Mountain range are developed for the average person, therefore it is the responsibility of the user to determine the comfort rating best suited to their requirements and preferences.

    • No camping or touring situation is the same: It is important to understand the conditions of your camping or touring situation in order to effectively prepare for your trip. Season, weather and location play a vital role in the quality of your sleep.
    • Usage scenario: The entire sleeping setup can be the difference between an undisturbed and a disgruntled night’s sleep. Sleeping in a smaller, enclosed space such as a Swag will allow body heat to fill up the space at a faster rate and keep it balanced throughout the night. Sleeping in a larger space such as a tent will mean cold air will linger throughout the night.
    • Shape & dimensions of user: People respond differently to various conditions. A smaller dimensioned person may be a colder sleeper as there is more free space within the sleeping bag. A larger dimensioned person will rapidly trap body heat within the sleeping bag.

    WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

In 1991, Darche revolutionised the traditional swag market with the introduction of the Dome style swag. DARREN O’DWYER, the founder of Darche with his wife CHERYL (DAR-CHE), embarked on an eastern Australia journey. Wanting a shelter arrangement that was quick, practical and easy to stow, Darren used his imagination and created a canvas shell with fibreglass poles and the dome style swag was born. Darren realised he required a suitable and purpose-built factory arrangement in order to suffice demand. Using Australian supply chain partners, Darche became the leading swag and canvas converter in Australia

Today Darche is proudly owned by the Charles Parsons Group who have been actively involved for over 20 years in supplying textile and trim componentry to Darche. Charles Parsons are the largest textile wholesaler in the Southern Hemisphere with offices in every capital city of Australia, including offices in Fiji, Auckland and Shanghai. The day-to-day running of Darche occurs in a warehouse facility based in Thomastown, Victoria with a site area of more than 40,000m2. Darche is overseen by experienced textile product developers, business strategists and passionate staff who are keen outdoor enthusiasts with sound knowledge and experience to match.

    OUR PROMISE

We are passionate, dynamic and keen. We enjoy the same lifestyle choices as our consumers. We strive to provide our consumers the very best value, reliability and service and most importantly we recognise the trust they place on us. We welcome our consumer’s feedback both positive and negative and promise to keep delivering whilst listening. We are mindful of our vulnerable environment and build our products to last the journey. We encourage life time use and if over the years it requires attention, even if it is a discontinued product, we endeavour to find a solution, on a best effort basis, to have it back and performing for you.

    WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

Darche’s growth and shortage of experienced canvas converters and local machinists, has seen Darche establish reputable off shore assembly and supply chain partners. Operating from four major plants purposely selected and audited by Darche. Machinists, assemblers, finishers, tool makers and QA/QC supervisors are included in our required workforce of over 180 people over our four plants. It is vitally important to note Darche do not use Trading Houses or vertical arrangements off shore to source product. We at Darche develop all product prototypes in Australia and are involved from concept through to market release. Utilising Charles Parsons accredited laboratories and leading processes, all developments are then vigorously tested at the Thomastown facility and again in real life situations by developers.
